Practical roots.
An open mind.
Peter Richards has spent his career turning practical business challenges into useful technology. A self-taught developer and entrepreneur, he combines hands-on technical experience with an understanding of the people, processes and commercial needs behind the software.
Raised in the Yellow Pages advertising business, Peter began his career at NTD Publishing, Inc., known as The Banana Pages. Between 1989 and 1997, he progressed from management into the role of Chief Information Officer, leading the company’s transition to computerized production and overseeing technology across its advertising, sales and business operations. That work helped the company earn industry recognition from the Association of Directory Publishers (ADP) and the Yellow Pages Publishers Association (YPPA) for product innovation.
In 1995, Peter and his brother, John Richards, developed and launched Banana Pages Online, bringing an established print directory business onto the emerging World Wide Web. Peter subsequently co-founded Yellow Pages on the Internet, LLC, extending that approach to other independent directory publishers. InfoSpace acquired the business in 1997. Peter initially supported the transition as a consultant, then joined InfoSpace full-time after the sale of NTD Publishing later that year.
At InfoSpace, Peter led the advertising production group, supporting advertising programs that became a major source of company revenue during a period of rapid growth. His experience connected software development, production operations and the commercial realities of building an Internet business.
He later helped launch Stardust Technologies, subsequently known as BrandWatch Technologies, a business focused on brand protection and authentication. Following the arrival of his twins, Peter shifted toward working from home, balancing family life with Internet ventures and community projects.
Today, RichWEB, LLC brings together his independent apps, websites and experiments. His work ranges from audio visualization and practical design tools to experiments with Apple II computers and native 6502 machine code.
Throughout his career, Peter has brought the same practical approach to technology: understand the problem, make thoughtful use of the tools available, and build something that helps people work more effectively.
